Onsite Visits

From our very own Horrible Histories to searching for mini beasts in the woods, Bailey Hill offers a great way to bring the Curriculum for Wales to life. Why not book a session - either self-guided or with support from our learning volunteers - and boost your pupils’ learning outside of the classroom?

Sessions can be catered for all levels and ages and will cover a range of subjects including science, history, art and design. We ask for a ratio of 1:7 for Key Stage 1 and 1:10 for Key Stage 2.

Adult helpers accompanying the trip should be prepared to support and encourage the children’s learning experience.

All educational material is available bilingually and all sessions can be provided in English or Welsh.

We also have indoor spaces with access to facilities for pre-booked school groups – please visit the Spaces to hire page for further information.

Example of sessions:

  • Parks – their evolution and use through the years
  • Castle Building – from look-out spots to motte and bailey and stone castles
  • Welsh Princes, Normans and medieval society – dressing up
  • Welsh Culture – Gorsedd stones/Eisteddfod
  • Earth walk/creative - collecting natural materials and creating pictures
  • Mini Beasts - what mini beasts live in Bailey Hill?

Bailey Hill Loan Box

Bailey Hill Loan box contains a variety of replica artefacts and cross curricular activities and resources for you to use in the classroom. Artefacts and resources are inspired by the fascinating 1000-year history of the Bailey Hill site.

All activities link to the new curriculum and support pupil led learning and discovery of their own local history and 'cynefin'. The box aims to develop investigation, problem solving and research skills.
